Sound Installations Podwalk

Working with aspects of Institutional Critique and Sound Art this series of projects engages the viewer to focus on institutions, collections, architecture and time through “installations” I set within the frameworks of museums through the use of geotag coordinates and app system software.  I have been working with the makers of the App “Podwalk” to create a series of site-specific sequenced Podcast programming that allows installation content.  You can either use headphones, the speaker on the bottom of your phone, or listen through the speaker on the top, just as when you are making a phone call.  The viewer must acknowledge the environment of the space, the experience of the space and the sense of time before, during and after their entry then remark on aspects of their experience through the questions that are asked of them within the content provided.

Institutional Critique:  Institutions focus attention on work they deem desirable through curatorial and collection efforts.  Some forms of critique are able to be brought into the mainstream conversation via these avenues, but I am looking to create my own space within the framework of the museum or institution.  This series will work through a series of questions that bring the viewer into the space not only to activate the content, but to participate in the conversation.

Sound:  This series works through experiences in time and sound that allow the viewer to listen to moments that have happened within the space and remark on the sense of time that relates to the sound piece that has been “installed”.

Step 3. Walk to the geotagged location 1 or any other location within the walk and listen to content.   (When you approach the sound marker it will play automatically when within 50 feet.)
